What an awesome day! The sun was out, the temperature mild (compared to Paso Robles anyway) and the turn-out was
impressive. Mike North put together a great show and made all of us feel right at home. As athletes we were met
with a couple of nice surprises which included personally labled water bottles (more on that later) and PIZZA, PIZZA, PIZZA!!!
Mike also made sure that the spectators were well taken care of by ensuring the crowd was kept abreast of what was happening
on the field by offering an explaination of each event and the relevance of any particular individual achievement that was
witnessed. Great Job Mr. North! I look forward to being apart of your future events.
Now as I was saying, personal water bottles. . . what a great idea. No more was there any concern of where you
placed your water bottle or who left their empty bottle by the trig. With personalized water bottles the problem of
miss placed bottles and out-right littering was avoided. If you weren't sure which bottle was yours you just looked
for your color and read the name on it. If it was yours, you're all good. If not, move along until you find yours.
Heck, that was even easy enough that I could understand it. And if you decided to just leave your empty bottle by the
trig or by the hammer cage, it wasn't hard for us to find out who it belonged to and ride you about it. All and all,
the water bottles were the smartest addition to the games I have ever seen.
As for the games, at this time I can only comment on the C class compition. If your looking for
more info you'll just have to come back here in a few days.
Well, what can I say? Sean. . . you rule my friend. Absolutely rule. Sean Waklee went from an 8th place
finish in Modesto to a 1st place finish in Campbell! The word for Sean would have to be "consistant".
His placing in each event was consistantly good. Not flashy. Not great in some and poor in others (like yours
truely), just all around a solid and consistant competitor. Sean's ability to push himself to succeed and to stay focused
on the goal is what took him to the top of his game as well as to the top of his class. Sean Waklee is without a doubt,
a strong up and coming athlete in the Scottish Highland Games and a strong force to be reckoned with.
As a friend of Sean (I hope it's okay to refer to myself as such) I can only say that I am extremely proud of his accomplishment
and equally as proud to know him. His drive and determination drives me to want to do better and his approachable nature
and easy going attitude reminds me of what this sport is all about; freinds, family, fun and a healthy dose of good sportsmanship.
Outstanding Job, Sean! Keep it up.
